Congratulations to Dr. Alan Kimura and the entire CRA team for designing a brand new building based on lean principles. Patient satisfaction, staff efficiencies and physician volumes have all exceeded expectations.
ARA cut patient visit lengths in half from 105 minutes to approximately 50 minutes by re-thinking the use of their space, equipment and resources.
Patients loved the care that they received at ARA, however they didn't care for the long wait times. Reducing wait times further improved patient exit survey scores.
Frontline staff was engaged to learn lean principles, develop ideas for implementing changes and then executing the new workflows. Satisfaction scores soared from 6/10 to 9/10!
The ARA physicians were always late, going from one clinic to another site after the morning sessions. Clinics finish at 11:45 AM rather than 12:45 PM after the changes. Saving an hour every day leads to time for lunch and higher productivity.
Managers were constantly bombarded with issues such as tech mistakes, supplies, equipment, resources, staffing etc. The stress calls from physicians to managers reduced from 10/week to 2/week or less.
The ARA team adopted the lean architecture concepts by re-imagining the use of the existing space to achieve the results. In 2018 ARA built a brand new building with lean architecture.
